Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear’s office has announced the grand opening of Bakery Express Midwest’s new commercial baking facility and attended the ribbon cutting last week. The facility, located in Florence, Ky., represents an investment by the company of more than $20 million and will create more than 225 full-time jobs in the region.
The 50,000-sq.-ft. bakery will produce fresh baked goods for Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Tennessee. Bakery Express Midwest announced the project in June 2023, and construction began in January 2024. According to reports at that time, the April 2025 opening was on schedule.
Bakery Express Midwest is one of several companies founded by Charles Burman, including the original Bakery Express Mid-Atlantic Inc., which began in 1970 in Halethorpe, Md. The Bakery Express group of companies — which includes Bakery Express of Central Florida, Bakery Express of Central Texas and Bakery Express of Southern California, as well — provide fresh baked goods to more than 4,000 retail outlets across the U.S., from donuts to muffins, cookies, brownies, croissants, bagels, pastries, cupcakes and more.
